BirdBrain Technologies specializes in leveraging consumer and robotics technologies to create products that promote learning by motivating and engaging students.
Our products are the result of research endeavors, in which we:
1. Work with end-users at all parts of the design process.
2. Pilot products in real educational settings that serve to provide feedback into the design of the device.
3. Create accompanying curricula that we regard as part of the delivered product.
We are always seeking new ideas and projects. If you are a researcher who is looking to create a sustainable future for an educational robot or device you've created, or if you are an educator who has an idea for a new device that could be used in the classroom, please contact us!

The Finch is the result of a 4 year study at Carnegie Mellon's CREATE lab into the design of a robot to support Computer Science education. Specifically designed to easily integrate into high school and college CS courses, institutions piloting the Finch have shown improved retention and year-over-year enrollment growth in their CS1 courses. Brainlink is about teaching your old robot some new tricks. We've created a system that connects your robot's tiny brain to the computational giant that is the modern laptop or smartphone.
Brainlink consists of a hardware wireless module that links your robot to your computer, and a software environment that makes it easy to write programs to control your robot. Brainlink works with almost any toy or consumer robot, so add sensors, behaviors, and capabilities to that robot gathering dust on your shelf! Visit www.brainlinksystem.com to purchase Brainlink.

The Hummingbird kit of parts was developed as part of the Arts and Bots/Robot Diaries project at Carnegie Mellon's CREATE lab. The goal of the project was to develop low-cost hardware and software that could support robotics activities centered on building expressive and communicative robots out of arts and crafts materials. Beta versions of the kit have been tested by partner teachers in a wide variety of classroom settings (science, math, and arts classes have all used them), as well as out of school activities. In partnership with the CREATE lab, we provide the Hummingbird kit for sale, and provide curricula and software developed by the project at www.hummingbirdkit.com
