Hour of AI: Machine Learning Magic

Using a micro:bit and flick of the wrist, students will create and train a machine learning model and explore how AI systems process data and make predictions.

This teacher-facilitated or student-led lesson requires a computer with internet access and a version 2 micro:bit with battery pack. Students will follow step-by-step instructions for training, testing, and improving a gesture recognition model to identify different magic wand gestures and then create an interactive project in MakeCode. The lesson covers the importance of data collection, data analysis, and data quality as well as how the data samples you record impacts the accuracy and overall success of the model they create.

AI for All: Machine Learning Models

This teacher-guided, whole-class lesson requires only a computer with internet access and a webcam — no robot needed. Students will train an image recognition model using Google’s Teachable Machine to identify different bird species, then use Snap! programming to create interactive projects.
