Imagine walking into your classroom, where students are buzzing with excitement, ready to build and code their own unique robots. With the Hummingbird Classroom Solution, hands-on STEM learning has never been easier to manage, engage with, and inspire.
The Hummingbird Classroom Solution includes three starter projects: the Catapult, the Rover, and the Animatronics, as well as extensions and challenges. This means teachers can be prepared for up to 3-5 weeks of instruction using the Hummingbird Robotics Kit.
Not sure how to teach this project? No sweat. We have teacher curriculum and resources available to help! Let’s explore how this all-in-one package transforms the learning experience over one school week in a middle school classroom.
Days 1-2: Unpacking & Building the Project Pack
Your students are eager to dive into robotics, and with the Hummingbird Project Packs, they have the perfect introduction!
To get started, the teacher distributes Hummingbird Premium Kits and Project Packs to groups of 2-3. Then the students begin assembling their project packs using the build instructions written by BirdBrain and tested by students. Using motors, wheels, servos, and sensors like distance and line tracking, they quickly grasp the fundamentals of mechanical design.
Thanks to the included student-friendly tutorials, they work independently and collaboratively, testing and refining their builds. Your students feel empowered to explore more.
Days 3-4: Iterating, Coding & Storing Projects
Over the next few days, students deepen their understanding by enhancing their project pack’s functionality. They program autonomous navigation, experiment with sensor feedback, and explore different coding challenges.
Each day, after testing their progress, students neatly store their in-progress robots in the Inflight Storage Solutions, keeping their builds safe and organized for the next session. Meanwhile, the USB charging hubs keep power banks ready for uninterrupted learning, ensuring that every session is productive and frustration-free. A student comes up to you at the end of the day saying how excited they are that this could be a job they have in the future.
Day 5-6: Showcase, Reflection, & Disassembling
After a week of building, programming, troubleshooting, and perfecting their robots, students proudly demonstrate their work. They present their projects in a classroom showcase, celebrating their problem-solving and creativity, and reflect on their learning experience.
Then, they carefully disassemble their builds, storing all reusable parts back in the Rolling Storage Unit. This makes transitioning to the next challenge — whether another starter project or their very own design — seamless and efficient.
Why Teachers Love the Hummingbird Classroom Solution
- Effortless Organization – Kits, tools, and power sources are all neatly stored and ready to go.
- Engaging & Scalable Learning – Students progress from simple builds to complex, self-directed projects with multiple options for programming.
- Reusable & Sustainable – With reusable components and storage, materials can be used over and over again.
- Minimal Teacher Prep – With teacher curriculum and student tutorials included, teachers can begin robotics instruction with as little as two hours of preparation.
